Ladies Oaks Day Style Inspo

This week Racing Style Nation brings you style tips for the upcoming Treasury Casino and Hotel Ladies' Oaks Day.

Pardon the pun, but when I read the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre Style Guide fashion theme of the day is 'Feminine Racewear,' I must admit I was 'pretty' pumped.  Get it? Of course you do.

The best rationale for any fashion loving filly to make their way to Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday 4 June 2016, has to be the opportunity to feel their ultimate best with the most girly of girlish themes running parallel with this season's obsession with floaty hemlines, lace obsessions and soft colour palettes.

The winner of 2015 Ladies' Oaks Day Mildred Elwood (pictured above) was the epitome of elegrant femininity in her monochrome, victorian style bespoke ensemble.  Mildred kept her accessories to a minimum and let the fabric and cut of her dress do the talking and with Mildred taking home one of the most sought after sashes of the season; the judges were clearly listening!

Just a reminder too ladies and gents that the rules are strict in FOTF when it comes to millinery and what materials are classed as winter/autum vs spring/summer appropriate, so stick with feathers, lace, wool felt or the like and keep your straw headpieces and silk florals boxed up for the end of the year.  You can read up on the FOTF basics in the Racing Style Journal.

Gents, use this huge raceday and the incredible Eagle Farm revival as an opportunity to experiment with texture and print on prints.  Originality and editing are always the key to a great racewear look no matter your gender.

For more details on the FOTF Competition see the Racing Style Nation FOTF Directory or contact the Brisbane Racing Club.
